For the boys

One of Britain's leading eating disorder experts says as many as one in five young men are deeply unhappy with their body image.

Dr John Morgan said that for every man with an eating disorder there were 10 more who desperately wanted to change the way they looked.

...while the slim but muscular look, a six-pack, big arms, and a slim waist, has become the cultural 'norm', it's not a naturally obtainable figure.

Dr Morgan added: "It's completely unhealthy, and to achieve that sort of shape you've got to be either working out for hours in a gym, making yourself sick, or taking certain kinds of illegal drugs."

The Eating Disorder Charity, BEAT says that since May this year, it's seen a huge increase in the number of men coming forward and asking for help.

Crime du jour: Being born with skin

Stylelist is one of these web sites full of "Star's in Bad Makeup/Hair/Fashion Choices" etc. I suppose it's one of the easiest things to publish. It doesn't consist of any sort of journalism, just a lot of flipping through photos.

(Here, for example, we see Fergie's *bad* makeup... which really is just her face. I mean, it's not bad makeup, it's lack of makeup, which is her face. So she was having a Bad Face Day?)

But they also seem to run a lot of articles on the anti-skinny model trend. So that's gotta be alright.

(Example: Montreal-based Simon's pulls their catalogue when customers complain about the super-skinnies.)

The Great Nail Debate! (not... as they would say in the 90s)

Whether or not to cut your cuticles (or ask your manicurist to do so) is apparently one of these big Nail Care Debates. For me it falls into the WTF category.

I've had long nails since I can remember, so I'm more comfortable with them long than short. (If I cut my nails too short it's painful--like Hansel getting his bangs trimmed in Zoolander: "Ah! Ah! Ahh!") I trim them once in awhile... I try to keep them clean underneath... I paint them occasionally... if I'm bored I'll push the cuticles down (not with a special instrument but with, you know, my other nails.)

But cut the cuticles? Not only does that sound hazardous, but completely useless. Do other people have cuticles growing halfway up their nails? Are mine just freakishly small? And of course you can buy expensive products that will eat off your cuticles, for a *safer* way to remove them.

The reason I'm even bothering to blog about it is that I'm reading an article on the Oprah magazine site and they call them an eyesore. As George Harrison would sing... oh my lord, my sweet lord.

" Should I let a manicurist cut my cuticles?
Dermatologists say no, but what an eyesore!"

That Revolting Posh Spice

Apparently she had the gall to step into public sporting "a double chin" and dirty ears. Oh my Lord: "Not even her giant princess cut diamond stud earrings were enough to distract onlookers from the unsightly grime caught in her ears."

What the-? Who is looking that closely except a reporter with a telephoto lens?? (And since I've never known ear wax to travel that far afield, one can only assume it's makeup or fake tan of some kind.)

Oh Lord.

Sin For The Week: Showing your roots

"Every bottle blonde knows how important regular trips to the salon are to keep their dark roots at bay.But it appears Sienna Miller must have missed the memo after she was spotted out and about in west London showing off her dark roots."

Heavens!

From The Daily Mail online.

Who are meanwhile praising Ugly Betty's Ashley Johnson for having "principles" because she won't go skinny for Hollywood. ...Two-faced much?
